Junior Controls Specialist
Smith Engineering PLLC and BEP Analytics LLC are consulting engineering and Building Automation System companies focused on energy reduction, infrastructure upgrade/improvements, and operations optimization of critical facilities. As we expand, we’re looking for a Junior Controls Specialist to join our team and play a key role in installing BAS systems and maintaining BAS systems and updating/fixing BAS systems and issues for our customers.
Position Overview:
As a Junior Controls Specialist, you’ll be responsible for working with Senior Controls Technicians in servicing existing sites’ building automation systems. This includes checking on proper operation of mechanical equipment and verifying the BMS network is operating correctly. You will be responsible for fixing wiring and or changing out failed sensors or actuators. Other duties include starting up new building automation controls and verifying proper operation of new equipment, programming, and graphics. You will also be analyzing project risks and opportunities.
Location: The Junior Controls Specialist will work at our customer sites in the New York Metro area and in our Manhattan office. There will be occasional travel to sites outside the New York Metro area, as needed.
This role reports to BEP’s Operations Manager, and is responsible for the following:
Follow safety requirements as outlined by BEP and customers and successfully complete assigned training as outlined in the training path
Follow mandatory policies, procedures, and standards, may coordinate with contractors on job sites, maintain tools and test equipment
Perform repairs as directed on all automation system types
Responsible for completing service ticket documentation per the policy, follow and maintain preventive maintenance schedules
Maintain complete and accurate documentation of services performed and generate reports
Identify and report system discrepancies, suggest system upgrade opportunities, and may assist in pricing repairs and upgrades to existing agreement and perform system checkout and startup on projects
Participate in job site final walk and/or final completion for systems-to-service turnover on assigned jobs perform other duties as assigned
Develop strong working relationships with internal and external customers, identify needs, and resolve issues
Work Overtime as needed (Compressed schedule performance can be a factor and will require extended hours to meet commitments)
Use BEP technology and devices, work remotely, identify and quote deficiency repairs and manage deadlines
Commission new distributed digital control systems on construction sites within planned timelines. Document commissioning details; communicate deficiencies and progress. Plan work with Lead Technician, and Team Leader.
Network technologies: Assists with data back-up from data servers and the creation of automated back-up procedures. Supports troubleshooting and resolution of inconsistencies in the functions or sequence of operations. Assists with the set-up and configuration of PC workstations and user interfaces.
Support the confirmation of proper network performance.
Operational testing, verification, and acceptance: Run routine reports to review system operation. Participates in final inspection and testing. Supports customer acceptance. Assists with customer training on system operations.
Provide plans and control system documents to engineering for as-built drawings.
Project site communication and coordination: May support others in the scheduling of trade contractors to coordinate startup services. Submits accurate time and expense reports.
Adhere to local, corporate, and OSHA safety policies and procedures. Ability to work in a team environment providing dedicated support to our customers.
Qualifications
Electro-mechanical experience (either in a previous role or through education) and user PC/software skill
Ability and willingness to work in a variety of circumstances, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high lift equipment, working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in various conditions
Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet as well as able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 75 pounds unassisted
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or state-recognized GED
Ability for scheduled travel 50% of the time.
Proficient in the use of an electrical multi-meter
Ability to read and understand HVAC mechanical prints
Ability to check out/commission common HVAC controls devices such as sensors, valves, damper motors, relays

$50,000–60,000 annual salary
